Since leading middle school summer enrichment in Miami during college, Ms. Alston has demonstrated a passion for creating opportunities for students placed at disadvantage. Previously, Ms. Alston led communications for Baltimore County Public Schools, the third largest school system in Maryland. Her background also includes research, writing, editing, and program management for nonprofits and government agencies, and she has served public schools in Baltimore city, Baltimore county, the District of Columbia, and New York City.

Ms. Alston earned a bachelor’s degree from Spelman College and a master’s degree from The George Washington University.
