A PATHWAYS SHINING STAR
De’Andrea Moore lives with her disabled mother in Gary, IN and is a senior at Wirt-Emerson School. She is the youngest and only girl in her family which suffered a tragic loss this summer when one of her brothers was fatally shot.
De’Andrea is a rare and valuable person who does not seek recognition but works steadily in the background on behalf of her school and particularly the Pathways to College program. Although she can be a little shy sometimes, this has not kept her from being active in school activities ranging from Student Council to the Thespian Club.
De’Andrea’s application to Pathways to College spoke volumes about her. She was described by a teacher as one of the most respected students he had ever taught. De’Andrea herself said that she would like to “learn more” and wanted her “ambition to become reality.”
And De’Andrea’s ambition is to study medicine. She loves people, particularly children, and her goal is to become a pediatrician. She is now applying to a variety of colleges and hopes to be accepted to one that will allow her to do a little traveling – another of her dreams for the future.
